Sylvia DipWSET!

“Il vino è la poesia della terra.”

Ciao! My name is Sylvia. I am a certified Italian FISAR sommelier and a DipWSET graduate.

Sylvietta makes the difference. She is a wine expert with Italian roots, a marathon runner and a woman with a great passion for wine.

Sylvietta

Sylvietta is a diminutive of Sylvia. It is a surname that refers to my stay in Palermo.

I left my heart in Italy after a holiday in Umbria. To get to know the country better I decided in 2003 to go backpack traveling from north to south Italy for nine months.

With just my backpack I stayed in cities like Venice, Rome, Napels and Palermo. In this long period of time I had the opportunity to learn Italian, meet new people and work in Rome.

It was an unforgettable and exciting experience.

Since then Italy has become a be part of my life.

Sylvietta is unique and has a meaning

After a break in the Netherlands, in 2009 I packed up and left for a new life in Italy.

Before I started working for Villa in Umbria at the end of 2013 I got all kinds of seasonal jobs in Trentino, Tuscany and Umbria to make ends meet.

I was very motivated to achieve my goals and making them a reality.

Montepulciano, Tuscany is the place where my wine adventure started. Montepulciano is the appellation of Tuscany’s noblest wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG.

I started working as an agent for a family winery in Montepulciano and I organized wine and food tours in Montepulciano and Montalcino.

After living in Italy for 14 years I moved back to the Netherlands in 2022.

I am proud of what I have achieved in my life. My international work experience helps me find broader career opportunities in the Netherlands as well as abroad.

Conclusion

Sylvietta is not just a name, it symbolizes my wine story and running experiences in Italy.

It is a summary of my life.

Run and Wine

Italy is a beautiful country for runners. From vineyard routes to breathtaking landscapes and iconic cities, Italy has very good running tracks.

The sights are stunning and the ambiance is “typical” Italian with good times before and after the run.

When training for marathons I ran a lot of kilometers along the Trasimeno Lake in Castiglione del Lago and in the Tuscan hills.

Running with friends without the pressure of competition is fun, but participating to races in Italy and winning cash and food prizes is a very nice experience.

This is something unique and difficult to imagine when this have not happened to you.

All my medals are kept in boxes, but some trophies are displayed on the shelves to remind me of my running career as a FIDAL member in Italy.

Wine ambassador

I work as a wine ambassador for some wine companies. The wineries I work with produces amazing (brand) wines.

If you are looking for someone to host portfolio tastings and masterclasses, I can certainly help.

The aim of being a wine ambassador is to increase sales, to attract new consumers and to improve brand identity and brand awareness.

I have relevant experience with portfolio tastings, masterclasses and winemakers dinner in the Netherlands, Belgium and Scandinavia.

Wine expert

I am a certified FISAR sommelier. I have passed all my exams and I have gathered plenty of experience in the world of wines.

I can call myself a DipWSET. WSET is an international recognized diploma. It is one of the most advanced courses in wine study in the world.

Run, eat and drink in Rome | a short trip to the eternal city

Run, eat and drink in Rome | a short trip to the eternal city

Last week I spent some days in Rome. After months of studying for my last WSET Diploma exam I needed a short break. I love Rome. I know the city quite well. It is a place where I have lived-in and have visited several times. Discover what to do and where to eat the best “spaghetti alla carbonara” and “maritozzo”. Enjoy the new foodie spots and how to run a city without chaotic traffic jams. Happy reading!

Visiting the winery Ferrari Trentodoc is a wonderful experience when you are in the area. Ferrari produces Trentodoc sparkling wines. All wines are prestigious sparkling wines made by the traditional method. Giulio Ferrari is the founder of the company in 1902. He sold his business to Bruno Lunelli in 1952. A tour at the winery is learning about its history. You will taste 3 wines during the wine tasting and tour.

Amazing Experience

An amazing experience from start to finish. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this experience. Sylvia is welcoming and knowledgeable and above all, a fantastic and friendly guide. This made our trip! ~ Alex (UK)

Yoyfull

It was a nice tour. We really enjoyed the lunch and we had a lovely time with the other group members. The wine was very good and made us all very joyfull. Sylvia did an excellent job in choosing the restaurant and she acted like a very good host. ~ Anda (Romania)

Honeymoon highlight

This was the highlight of our honeymoon! It ended up just being myself and my husband on the tour, as the rest of our group didn’t show up. Sylvia and the team at Gattavecchi went above and beyond for us to make the day special. Also, Montepulciano is just breathtaking. If you are debating on stopping here, DO IT! We 110% recommend! Thank you Sylvia! ~ Sara (Calgary)
